The Tribal Exchange Visit is a programme organised by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt of India, New Delhi. Under this programme, group of tribal youths from different states of India are directed to visit other tribal areas in India. The whole expense is met by the Central Government. From Kerala also, we have sent groups of tribal youths too Assam, Maharashtra and other states. This year, we have sent a group of 10 tribal youths to various districts of Maharashtra under the leadership of an officer of the Corporation. The team spent 10 days in various tribal districts of Maharashtra and successfully completed their visit. The main idea behind the Tribal Exchange Visit is to familiarize the tribals with the lifestyle and occupational nature of the tribes of other states. Twenty Eight Shop Rooms in the Kairali Sree Theatre Complex situated at the heart of Thrissur town, purchased by the Scheduled Castes Development Department from Kerala State Film Development Corporation at a cost of Rs 2.73 Crores was handed over to the Corporation by the department in December 2007 so as to lease out the same at nominal rent to entrepreneurs belonging to scheduled castes for starting lucrative business ventures. Till date, 23 dynamic and resourceful entrepreneurs started different income generating units. Three of the shops were occupied by Kudumbasree units exclusively consisting of Women members belonging to scheduled caste. It is expected that the entire building will gradually form into a large business complex offering different services / products to the public at reasonable price under one roof. The project as such has won wide acclaim among the public for its nobility and social relevance in a competitive market driven economy.
To promote the Traditional Medical Practicing among the Tribal Community, Corporation designed the scheme called Traditional Medical Practioner's Loan. For this, the Kerala State Scheduled Tribe Development Department allotted Rs.50 Lakhs to the Corporation. Along with this amount Corporation set apart an equal amount from its fund and formulated the Scheme. Under this scheme, the Traditional Medical Practioners are given a loan to Set up Traditional Medical Practicing Centres. 50% of the loan is treated as subsidy. The rate of interest is 6% and repayment period is 5 years. Patients even from Urban areas are approaching these clinics which are situated in the tribal areas, reveals the wide acceptance of this scheme.
